Utica Drop Forge and Tool Company started in 1895 in Utica NY and was best known for it’s nippers and pliers that they were able to make at a relatively low cost while maintaining high quality. Initially their products were carbon steel, but like their competitors, Crescent Tools and Diamond Calk Horseshoe, they shifted quickly to alloy steel in the 1930s because it allowed for stronger, thinner and lighter construction. The End Cutting Nipper changed little from its appearance as the "No. 60 Bull Dog End Cutting Nipper" as early as 1906. This evolutionary version was produce from 1925 to 1943. The company’s name appears as “Utica Drop Forge & Tool Corp.” in the top of a half circle on the Pivot of the Pliers. “Utica, N.Y. U.S.A.” is stamped in an arc below. This manner of marking was changed to a simple “Utica” or “Utica Tools” in 1944. We think this No. 60-6 Nipper was made sometime in early 1940s. The Pliers show wear, but it’s honest wear. It hasn’t compromised quality of the cut. The Diamond-Checkered Grip Pattern is crisp. There is some oxidation and light corrosion on the metal. Nothing will prevent the Nippers from going to work upon receipt. Could also make ‘em shine and retire to a show-and-tell collection. We will ship the Nippers by USPS 1st Class Mail on the next regular business day flowing receipt of payment.
